Pastor Moses Semanda Mbuga lost his father when he was in his mid-twenties; assumed a father-figure role and charged with the responsibility of taking care of his mother, 11 siblings, and a church. He took in more orphans and opened new churches. He now takes care of more than 3,000 orphans in eight village schools spread all over the country and leads the Imani Milele (Always Believe) ministry with over 300 congregations. The Imani Milele ministry, now in its fourth year of partnership with ServeNow Ministries, has received assistance from the Colorado-based faith organization; the construction of permanent classrooms at one of the eight locations in addition to providing other educational materials to the eight schools and churches.

The impact of the work undertaken by ServeNow, in Uganda is not lost on those who have visited the eight rural schools in the country.  “During a week I followed the ServeNow projects in Uganda and I witnessed enormous need. What seems like so little to us, can have a profound impact in providing education by sharing the love of Jesus Christ,” said Kyle Pewitt, Chief Financial Officer, Solara Surgical Inc. “We have participated in several high-level projects with  ServeNow and we have never been disappointed,” Fred Sharpe,  Chief Dental Officer Texas State Dental Director,  Avesis Inc said.   And, Robert Shaffer, Founder, and CEO, Air-Squared, Inc. said; “My wife and I have personally visited several ServeNow locations around the world and we can vouch that what they say they are doing, they are in fact doing.”

Buildings made of mud, straw, and bamboo are collapsing due to termite infections or storms.

ServeNow, inspired by a humanitarian theme, “the extraordinary dream”, is leading an effort to encourage more people of goodwill around the world to join them and invest in the future of Uganda’s  school children by alleviating adverse and multiple social effects caused by three related factors they have identified. These include health and social causes which significantly contribute to rural poverty in Uganda; the effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic which resulted in the death of thousands of adults and orphaned approximately one million children; and poverty which fuels crime, disease, and hopelessness.

While ServeNow has focused on quality education and nutritious meals as solutions to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness and ensure a positive future direction in life for these children, an ongoing problem of the crumbling educational infrastructure threatens to impede the realization of these outcomes. The school buildings, made of mud, straw, and bamboo trees are collapsing due to termite infections or storms; exacerbating the cycle of problems. Although ServeNow has constructed classrooms made with brick and cement at one of the school locations, there are 35 more permanent classroom buildings that need to be constructed in other locations for the more than 3,000 children who attend the schools in the impoverished neighboring villages.

The international faith-based organization is seeking partnerships to rebuild a classroom or an entire school block at any of the other seven locations. The cost for each permanent building, including complete finishing is estimated at $ 70,250 dollars. To those ready to embrace this opportunity, ServeNow will provide a framed picture of the school building with the children to celebrate together what your partnership has made possible.

The HIV/AIDS pandemic has caused the death of large numbers of young adults and orphaned approximately one million children.

ServeNow is further inspired by the spiritual beliefs of Pastor Moses Semanda Mbuga who says: “I fell in love with these rural communities - places with no electricity, healthcare, clean running water, and education—yet the people had the warmest and brightest spirits and energy, like no worries, existed in their lives. Pastor Moses Mbuga says that when he started the ministry, he met children who taught him the meaning of courage, love, and perseverance. “Many of them had suffered from diseases for years and yet kept pressing on, praying, hoping and surviving,” he says, and continues, “It changed my life.  For me, the spirit of never giving up and always believing, regardless of the present situation, is what sustained our humble beginning.”  Pastor Moses Semanda Mbuga says that the lessons he learned from the people he met and the hope and belief they exuded even in difficult times continue to inspire him. “I learned that sometimes helping is easy, more often inconvenient (because it gets us out of our comfort zones), but always necessary. It has the power to change this world,” he observes.

On his part, Dr. Pastor Lars Dunberg, the founder of ServeNow Ministry, the partner organization with Imani Milele Ministries, was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. He sensed God’s call to ministry soon after his conversion as a teenager at an interdenominational evangelistic crusade in his home city. As a 16-year-old, he began preaching wherever he was invited. Because of its evangelistic fervor, Lars Dunberg joined The Salvation Army and trained at their School for Officers, first in Stockholm, then in London, England.

After serving with The Salvation Army between 1959 and 1966, Pastor Lars Dunberg was invited to serve as evangelist with the Youth for Christ (YFC) in Britain and then served as their National Director between 1967 and 1970. Pastor Lars Dunberg also served the Evangelical Covenant Church of Sweden from 1970 to 1974; Europe Director, Living Bibles International between 1974 and 1977; and International President of the Chicago-based LBI from 1977 to 1992. He later served as the International President, International Bible Society between 1992 and 1998 in Colorado Springs and International President, Global Action from 1998 to 2012.

Following his retirement, Pastor Lars Dunberg found that the word retirement did not suit him well, and launched ServeNow to ensure that new churches around the world have the Word of God as well as some basic training in understanding the foundations of the Christian faith. He also launched Mountainbrook Press to provide helpful material to the American church as well as provide ServeNow with Scriptures and training materials around the world. Currently, some 300,000 copies of the Basic Things You Need to Know series are distributed in thirteen languages around the world. Lars Dunberg attended seminary in Stockholm, Sweden, ordained in 1971 by the Covenant Church of Sweden and holds an honorary doctorate from California Graduate School of Theology. He has traveled around the globe more than 100 times and has spoken in 88 countries around the world. Lars Dunberg is the author of 16 books, including eight of the Basic Things You Need to Know series. He is married to Doreen, and they have three 1children and five grandchildren. The Dunbergs make their home in Colorado Springs, USA.
