We are indeed grateful to you all and may the Lord reward you abundantly.”

Fort Worth, Texas--The family of the late Adam Senyonga has expressed its gratitude to the Ugandan community living in the DFW area and elsewhere in the Diaspora, relatives, and friends in Uganda for the tremendous gesture of goodwill that ensured that the remains of Adam’s were repatriated to Uganda for burial as was his wish.  “We wish to extend our deepest and heartfelt gratitude to the entire Ugandan community both in the DFW and beyond, our relatives and friends in Uganda, and all others who offered support and continue to extend comfort to us during these difficult times of grief,” a statement from Auntie Betty Ssenyonga, the widow, on behalf of the bereaved family read in part.

“On my own behalf, I would like to express my deepest and heartfelt gratitude to you all; Ugandans living in the DFW area, others living in the Diaspora, and relatives and friends in Uganda for offering emotional, moral, and financial support to us and the comfort you are continuing to extend to us during these difficult times of grief,” Auntie Betty Ssenyonga stated in a message this week. The message of gratitude followed a successful drive that raise money to transport the body of Uncle Adam Ssenyonga, 56, back to Uganda for burial.

The remains of Uncle Adam Ssenyonga were repatriated to Uganda aboard a British Airlines flight on Monday October 17. The body was transferred on a Kenya Airways flight in Nairobi on Wednesday night and arrived at Entebbe Airport in the morning on Thursday October 20, 2016. “With your help and support, enough money was raise to transport the remains of my husband, your friend, uncle, mentor, and Jjajja to Uganda for burial,” Aunt Betty stated. She added: ““We are indeed grateful to you all and may the Lord reward you abundantly.”

Reliable Funeral Services was contracted to ensure the remains of Adam were handled, treated, and transported to the burial according to Islamic religious traditions. The remains of Uncle Adam were accompanied to Uganda by Rita Woods, a step daughter of the deceased.

Owekitiibwa Nelson Kawalya, Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko and a brother to the widow, Aunt Betty Ssenyonga, received the body at Entebbe airport on behalf of the bereaved family.   The burial of Uncle Adam Senyonga took place the same day Thursday October 20 at 4:00PM at Kakoba near Mbarara town. 

Born on June 24, 1960, to the late Abdul Kyeyune and the late Madina Nakyanja of Kakoba, Mbarara district, Adam Ssenyonga’s ancestors migrated to Ankole from Buganda during the religious wars in Buganda kingdom during the late 1880s.  He completed his primary education in Mbarara and joined Kibuli Secondary School in Kampala for his ordinary and advanced level education. He later joined Makerere University where he graduated with a Bachelors’ degree in economics. He worked in various places in Uganda before migrating to the United States in 1994.

Some members of Texkamp, a group of Ugandans who previously lived in Texas and have since returned to Kampala, were also at Entebbe Airport to receive the body of Uncle Adam Senyonga. The Texkamp group was joined by Mr. Muzinga from Dallas, Texas, now on a visit to Uganda to receive the body at Entebbe airport and at the burial in Mbarara. “He was a friend of us all and we had to do everything possible to receive and pay our last respects to him with honor and dignity he so much deserved,” Richard Nalima, one of the organizers of the event told the EADM. The Texkamp group chaired by Mr. John Tamale, and comprising of Richard Nalima, Frank Byaruhanga, Sabastian Lwanga, and others to organize transportation for the mourners to travel to Mbarara for burial.

“Cross over back to the one who gave you to us. Crossover and rest from thine labors. Crossover and meet those who cherish you but went ahead of you. Crossover and meet thine maker who knew you more than we all did,” the family prayed. “Thank you for being the husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend, and trustworthy community elder. Rest in Eternal Peace, good friend, May thine angel’s hold you close to Abraham’ bosom,” the statement read in part.  You will surely be missed but we have to let go. You will always be on our minds and forever in our hearts. “RIP, Uncle Adam, my dear husband and friend to all,” the grieving Aunt Betty Ssenyonga prayed.
